Alan Freed, the Cleveland disc jockey credited with coining the term "rock and roll," died at age 43 on January 20, 1965.  Gloria wrote this tribute to Freed (who was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986) in the May 1965 issue of 16.

Aron Kincaid, a 16 fave who appeared in beach movies and many popular television shows of the 60s, has died in Los Angeles at age 70.   In his "Fact Sheet" in the October '65 issue, Aron revealed his hobbies as "collecting antique daggers and oil painting," and after retiring from show business he did become a successful painter of landscapes and seascapes.
