"ORNETTE COLEMAN's My Favorite Things on Atlantic won the high honor of being named the best LP of the year by France's Jazz Magazine ... RAY CHARLES and BOBBY DARIN fans are in for a bargain-type treat. Atlantic has reduced the prices of their albums so what you used to pay $4 for is selling for $2.70. Better pick up on that. And speaking of picking up -- here is a list of the latest and swingingist LPs in the field this month: GEORGE CHAKIRIS' Memories Are Made Of This on Capitol (four large black-and-white portraits plus a huge color one for free in this!); Teenage Triangle (with SHELLEY, PAUL P. and JIMMY DARREN) -- PAUL P.'s My Dad LP and JIMMY RUSHING's Five Feet Of Soul -- all on Colpix; JERRY BUTLER and THE FOUR SEASONS both have groovy LPs on Vee-Jay; Victor has come up with ELVIS' It Happened At The World's Fair, the movie track of Bye Bye Birdie (with BOBBY RYDELL on it) and Who Is Gary Burton?, featuring the new 19-year-old vibe sensation; Johnny Mathis Newest Hits is on Columbia (What Will Mary Say? is in this); Ella Fitzgerald Swings Broadway is on Verve; JOHNNY CRAWFORD's His Greatest Hits on Del-Fi includes Rumors; prize package of the month is 15 Everly Brothers Hits on Cadence; authentic blues lovers will dig John Hammond's Blues on Vanguard; and for the true jazz fan there is A Different Journey by CHICO HAMILTON and The Immortal Django Reinhart Guitar, both on Reprise."
Tonight in Hollywood, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is hosting a sold-out premiere of the digitally remastered Bye Bye Birdie, with stars Ann-Margret and Bobby Rydell in attendance. Since today is one day after and one day before the birthdays of Bobby and Ann-Margret, it seems appropriate to feature a song from Bye Bye Birdie, one of GeeGee's recommendations in the July 1963 issue of 16.
