Best known as Timmy in the popular television show Lassie, Jon Provost was one of the most well-respected young actors in show business when he made the decision to pursue life outside of the Hollywood spotlight. In 1963 Gloria Stavers recognized his talent with a GeeGee Award for Most Promising TV Actor, and later in Jon's teen years he was a popular 16 "fave."
In his 2007 autobiography "Timmy's in the Well: The Jon Provost Story" (co-authored with his wife Laurie Jacobson) Jon shares his memories from his movie debut at age 3, through his seven years on Lassie, to his difficulties transitioning to a "normal life" as a college student while being one of the most recognizable faces in America. A fascinating look at the effect of celebrity on a typical Hollywood family, the book also includes reminiscences from other faves such as David Cassidy, Davy Jones, and Paul Petersen.
A lifelong dog lover, Jon is a Board Member of the organization Canine Companions for Independence.
I am thrilled to feature Jon's photo with his GeeGee award, taken in his home only a couple of weeks ago. Jon and Laurie recently discovered the award which, by the looks of its condition after 45+ years, obviously had been packed and stored with great care. Thank you Jon!
