"On a surprise visit to our ed, GLORIA STAVERS, in her Fifth Avenue office, DAVY JONES decided to do this little RAIDER impression for you!  Well, what do you think? ... DAVY, who happens to be about one of the sweetest people in the world, met LYNNE RANDELL, Australia's No. 1 pop girl singer, when she was in New York.  (More about her next month.)  DAVY and DAVID PEARL took LYNNE along with them to PHIL OCHS' Carnegie Hall concert party -- where they all posed prettily along with BARRY and CYNTHIA MANN for 16's camera ... The BEACH BOYS,  who were a smash in London, nosed out the BEATLES on NME's annual music poll... My favorite girl singer, ARETHA FRANKLIN, has just signed a recording contract with Atlantic.

Goodbye Davy

Yesterday we lost a very special member of the 16 Magazine "family" ... darling Davy Jones. From the moment Gloria Stavers spotted him in the Broadway show "Oliver," Davy had a home in the pages of 16.  He was the perfect teen idol, and in addition to his charmingly accented voice, Davy won our hearts with his boyish looks, dazzling smile and engaging personality.  We were all going to marry him. In time we realized that wasn't in the cards, and we reluctantly took the posters off our walls and settled for boys who were mere mortals. But we never, ever forgot our first "crush" who skated his way into our hearts with his love beads and tambourine.  And Davy didn't forget us either.  Over the years he maintained that youthful spirit, and through his music and concerts we could escape to a more innocent time in our lives.

 

David Jones was a husband, father and grandfather, and yesterday his family said, "Davy loved to laugh each day, and we know he would want his fans to remember him with laughter and not tears. You all meant such a lot to him."

 

 Davy, you made us all "Daydream Believers" and we love you.
